I had a final exam this morning in my Classical Chinese class and I busted my way up to the U to take it. I got 9/10 of the ancient Chinese texts translated and had no idea how to do the last one. I accepted my 90% and left. While unlocking my bike
I had the great idea to cruise downtown and pickup some curry from my friend's food cart called "The Curryer". I got my box of curry and was sitting on a bench there on 300 South enjoying the sunshine and delicious curry when a homeless man came up and asked me for some money, saying he needed to get some food. I offered to buy him lunch and after looking over the curry he said he didn't want it. He mentioned a sandwich shop just down the street a little bit so we went there. He ordered a huge sandwich, a drink and extra toppings for $12! All I could do was laugh because the guy taking the order made sure it was ok. I was honestly just happy to fill this guy's stomach with something he would enjoy having. I'm glad that he went all out and felt like he could. He kept thanking me for the meal and we chatted for a minute about what he was doing in SLC. It turns out he's from Chicago and came to SLC because the people are so friendly and kind. He is staying at the homeless shelter while he tries to find some work and put his life back together. I realize that I am so incredibly blessed to have a home, go to school and have the means to take care of myself and others. I'm sure that man's full stomach is nothing compared to my full heart.
Such a cool thing you did, man. Thank you for sharing that. As you said earlier, there's still hope for this world when we all do little things like this.
ReplyDeleteJeff, that is awesome! Should have called me and we could have had lunch all together! :)
