It's a rainy day in Tianjin, China and I need to express some thoughts. I recently finished a book called ASPIRE by Kevin Hall. In this book Hall describes the power of words and in each chapter he introduces a new word and explains the meaning as well as gives examples of people who exemplify the characteristics described by this new word.
My favorite part about the book is that at the end of each chapter Hall invites the reader to think about someone in their life that exemplifies the word and teach them the meaning of the word and tell them why they exemplify it. This has given me a chance to
reflect on all the people that have inspired me, that have coached me, that have seen my divine potential even when I don't or that have always pushed me to realize my dreams.
There are so many people in my life that have had such a huge impact. We each have a similar crew in our individual lives. These people could be either positive or negative influences. It is up to the individual to choose how they can react to those influences. What I'm trying to say is that nobody can say that they have never had an inspiring figure in their lives because inspiration is a choice. We are only taught great things when we are ready to learn. Confucius said "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear." I believe that.
I feel super blessed to have been able to have so many awesome life experiences. The other day I thought to myself "I'm 25 years old, I lived in Taiwan for two years, I've been to China 3 times, I've been to other countries too and I'm now studying full time in one of the best schools in China... How did this happen?" and then it hit me.. It happened because of all the great influences in my life. It happened because every inspiring lesson in church and every shared testimony and every thought provoking conversation with friends all have led me up to this point in my life. All these things have made me realize that LIMITATIONS ARE AN ILLUSION! You are the "captain of your fate, the master of your soul"! You can be and do ANYTHING!
This also made me reevaluate. What do I want to do? What do I want to become? What is most important? The answers all seem so obvious now. Relationships, knowledge. These are what remain with us through the eternities. Everything else is just an appendage to life.
All the experiences I've had in life, although great, mean little to me when compared to how much I value my relationships with people that breathe life into my dreams. That is what's important. That is true value. That is truth.
